Buffalo Thorn Lodge is an Exclusive use, Self-Catering Lodge beautifully placed within the Black Rhino Private Game Reserve, located adjacent to the malaria free Pilanesberg National Park.

Buffalo Thorn Lodge is well situated, being approximately a 2 and a half hour drive from Johannesburg and only 30kms from the Sun City Resort, on good roads.

Buffalo Thorn Lodge comprises five separate and luxuriously appointed chalets, accommodating a maximum of 10 guests. There are 2 Family chalets which have 2 single beds in a loft area, suitable for children. Camping cots can be arranged on request. Each chalet is freestanding with king size, double or twin beds, private en-suite bathrooms, each with a Jacuzzi bath and indoor and outdoor showers. The chalets are air-conditioned and boast their own lounge and private deck with sun loungers. There is an outdoor boma and braai area.

The central lodge area has a Dining room, fully equipped kitchen, TV Lounge with satellite TV and home theatre centre. There is a snooker table, reading lounge and outside deck area with swimming pool and heated Jacuzzi which also boasts views out over the bush and often offers close sightings of passing wildlife. There is no restaurant at Buffalo Thorn lodge - all food and drink needs to be brought in and meal preparation and cooking needs to be done by the guests. There are shops located at the Sun City Resort only a short drive away.

Buffalo Thorn can only be booked for exclusive use but includes the services of cleaning staff and an experienced ranger with private game drive vehicle, who will conduct guided game drives (approximately 2.5 hours) on both the Black Rhino Private Game Reserve and within the ‘Big 5’ Pilanesberg National Park.

Buffalo Thorn Lodge offers excellent game viewing opportunities in a Big 5, malaria free area with an abundance of wildlife and exceptional bird watching opportunities. The Black Rhino Private Game Reserve is 1800 hectares in size, while Pilanesberg National Park offers an additional 55 000 hectares of wildlife terrain to explore.

The game viewing opportunities at Buffalo Thorn Lodge, combined with the comforts and facilities offered - the swimming pool, Jacuzzi and other facilities - offer the perfect destination to relax, unwind and rejuvenate in true African bushveld surroundings.
